Banana Cream Pie

(banana cream pie from blue smoke)

Not really a dessert person. When i end dinner, id rather end with the salty, meaty taste rather than a sugary sweet dessert taste.

Id most likely choose a slice of pizza over a slice of cake or cupcake.

while watching Throwdown with Bobby Flay i heard about a dessert called "Banana Cream Pie"
For this episode he battled against a Brooklyn bakery from Red Hook called Baked.

i never had banana cream pie but it sounds like something i would be obsessed with if i ever had it. when i eat desserts, i like it to be just a little sweet, when its overly sweet, it kills the whole thing for me. Banana's being one of my favorite fruits with a simple crust and peanut butter whipped cream sounds amazing.

A must try for winter break.

North Face Purple Label Day Backpack

I've been fiendin' for this bag for a few years now.
I remember seeing a north face bag similar to this, but non-purple label for about $50 shipped on ebay. I dont know why i passed but i did. $50 seems a lot for a such a simple bag but the purple label bags are only available in Japan and go for about $200.

I randomly saw some asian girl on the train with a red and blue one. I asked her where she got it and she was confused and didn't understand me. Then for a few stops, we just stood quiet and awkward and then did a awkward goodbye smile as i left. hahaha

Sac Sac nostalgia

after i randomly saw some old asian lady drinking a can of this on the train it brought back maddddddd memories. I used to drink this all the time at my mama's house (name i call the person that baby sitted me since i can remember)

So after i seen't (seen't, new word in my vocab that me and evan use to act ghetto, it is seen the past tense form of see but even more past tense to the 3rd power) the old lady with the Sac Sac, i headed to k-town to get some of this korean goodness.

Bought a box of 12 and carried the box on the train and on the walk home though the snow. lol.

Not that amazing, not no orangina, but still nostalgic nonetheless.

Song of the Day
On the subject of throwback, here's a song that just came on music choice party favorites channel.

vacation

after all this its vacation for a lil more than a month. I usually go to vegas every summer to visit family but last summer we didnt go because my family and I decided to just push it to Christmas/ New Years/ My bday time so i can be 21 and at the same time escape the cold. we ended up not doing that and this summer i didnt go anywhere either. maybe for this break ill head down to miami, or cali/vegas to visit some friends.

tired

lately im been mad busy or just mad lazy to post up new entries.

I have a few entries on my phone and a few pics i still need to upload.

I have hundreds of random picture that i need to feature on my blog. pictures of interesting people on the train, things that look appealing, food and just chillin sessions.

For the past few days Ive been in school from morning until 1-2 am processing film and developing some photos for my final portfolio for photography.
yesterday i was in school for 16 hours. ZOINKS!!!!! we had pizza and beer in the photo lab, chillin and making prints.
It takes me about 5-7 prints until i finally get the right contrast and exposure on the prints. Its such a waste of paper and money considering the paper is a little less that a dollar a sheet.
Photography is really fun but just requires a lot of time and commitment.

Aside from my photography portfolio, I also have
-an 8 page paper
-a 7 page paper
-three 4 page papers
-museum report
-three paintings
-and a philosophy final.

fun lol

Joker = you're corny

Dark Knight came out 2008, and the "Why so serious?" phrase got annoying and played out shortly after the second week it came out. Then Halloween 2008, every other person was The Joker, specifically Heath Ledger "Joker"

I guess you can consider it the Halloween "trend" of 2008. Im not hating, ive seen a couple Jokers that looked like they got pulled straight from the movie but other than that everyone else just butchered the classic villain.

I understand Heath Ledger played an amazing role as the Joker but cmon its 2010 now and as Fergie said it best "Youre so 2000 and late"

We already got enough Jokers in 2008, and then there were even more cornballs in 2009 doing the same thing a year late. Its not only Halloween, its year round. The shirts, movie poster, Joker and "why so serious?" buttons and even facebook profile pictures of the movie poster. hahaha smh.

For this year, the costume, the phrase and clothing should be retired, let it breathe for about a decade and maybe it will be appreciated again.

The only exception would be if the Joker costume was done properly, then followed by friends dressed like the Joker's clowns and driving through the city in a van with a prop grenade launcher. other than that....no. lol

Lincecum cap

Though out the divisional series and league series, i was wondering if pitcher Tim Lincecum was going to change his signature, 3 year old cap to the official World Series patch cap if the Giants advanced to the world series.

I was hoping he would just stick with the cap and forget about the patch.

instead they made an exception for him, they stitched a fresh world series patch onto his old fitted. hahaha...... nice.

on the topic of baseball
Yankees own girardi and mo were featured in the new Taco Bell commercial. I try to avoid fast food as much as possible, but the new XXL chalupa looks tasty, or as Ramona says "taste-tastic"
I might have to try it next time I pass by one.

btw, taco bells in the city tries to rape on prices, when the $2 meal deals were introduced featuring a taco, chips and soda, the city was charging like 4 bucks. wtf!!! lol. w/e

Fun Stress.

Oversleeping
So I spent the whole night writing a paper, from midnight til 4:30 am.
Decided to take a short nap to wake up at 7 to get ready for my 9:45 class where my paper was due. I set like 4 alarms and unconsciously woke up and turned off all of them and went back to sleep. My dad then wakes me up at 9:50 and i suddenly get out of bed frustrated lol.

my 9:45 class is my Philippine-American Lit class and my professor hates latenesses and I have a lot of respect for him. whats even worse was yesterday was his book release party at the Philippine Embassy on 5th Ave and after the party, before i left, i shook is hand and told him i was gonna be early to class.

In the end I gave in my paper in the end of the second class he teaches. I gave in my paper and he was cool about it and laughed. Now i have to come early all the time and participate like crazy to make up for my fuck up.

Bumming out routine
While I like being busy with life and mentally stimulated in school, I miss having time to myself and sleeping until my body naturally wakes up. Then i would lay down for another hour or so, stretching and watching tv until I voluntarily get up. After I get up, I would go to youtube and spend 15 minutes making a playlist of music I want to get ready to. Shower and brush my teeth, eat some left over microwaved lasagna for breakfast and get dress. Finally i'm ready to leave to go out and chill.

This all ties in with what I learned in philosophy. Ideally we would want to live a stress free, carefree and pleasureful life but in the end most of us create a more complex life, with challenges and hardships. This makes our life more meaningful and causing and even more pleasurable outcome.

The example given in class was the feeling of climbing mount everest. If we had a choice, most people would rather climb the mountain to get the pleasure of accomplishment rather than taking a pill (hypothetical) that would emit the same exact feeling of pleasure artificially. Even though they provide the same exact feeling of satisfaction and pleasure the struggle of climbing the mountain and the journey enhances it. Sometimes the struggle is more valued than the actual outcome. Like he corny saying, "we all have goals but in the end, it's not about the goal, it's about the beauty of that journey."

It's true though. An example I made was involving autographs. An autograph would have little to no meaning for me if I were to buy it or receive it as a present. If I were to personally get the autograph from the person themselves then I have a story behind the autograph. With just an autograph, it is just meaningless ink on a surface, but if there is an experience behind it then it creates sentimental value.

I'm just ranting right now. I am typing this on the notepad on my phone. I will email this to myself later on the day to post on my blog.

I originally wanted to type a brief, 3 sentence entry on how I miss sleeping and just chilin but yea, I didn't lol.

ALCS/ NLCS 2010

NLCS Game 4 -Giants vs Phillies
Giants had a two run lead by the 3rd inning.
In the fifth inning, Phillies scored four runs, instantly putting them in the lead in one inning.
Giants score another run on the bottom of the fifth and score another two runs in the sixth.
With the Giants in the lead 5-4, Phillies tie the game in the eighth.
Then in the final inning, Giants scores a run, winning the game and preventing OT.

ALCS Game 5 - Yankees vs Rangers
Didnt get to watch the Yankee game today since it started early today and I was in class and also since its on cable (TBS). When i got out of class, I stepped into a bar on the way to the train station and saw that the Yankees were in the lead. Finally after facing 2 huge losses (10-3 and 8-0) when i got home i checked the update and saw that they won 7-2.
I also like the fact that Yankees unite New Yorkers. I randomly start conversations with anyone i see on the train with a Yankee cap and talk about how theyre doing or if i was missing a game, as them for an update, etc.
I also stopped wearing my "lucky" cap and wore another yankee cap today. lol

Poconos with California

Spent the weekend in Poconos with Ling, Jason, Lorelie, Tec, Celine and 6 people from California, Lorelie's God sister Ann, Deagle, Chris, JR, Kevin and Jerome.

Friday
Me and ling met up with all the "east coasters" and Ann and Deagle at 8. Had some viet around Brooklyn and finally met up with the rest of the cali ppl at 11 due to their connecting flight being delayed at Wisconsin.

Arrived at Lorelie's poconos house at 3 AM after grocery shopping at walmart.

Drinking at 4 am til 6:30. Me and the rest of the survivors went out to the woods to take a walk and somewhat see the sunrise.

Went back in an saw discovered ling throwing up all over the carpet on the 2nd floor chill area.
"Ling dont throw up on the carpet, throw up downstairs on the tile, its easier to clean" haha my drunken rational thinking at 7 in the morning.

Saturday
7 PM, we dropped ling off at bus station cause he had to leave early back to NY to film a wedding on sunday. Went to the outlets and had an endless shrimp dinner at Red Lobster.

Sunday
we were gonna leave early to do the Breast Cancer walk but everyone was tired. We left at 2 and went hiking at Bushkill Falls for about 2.5 hours. I think we went hiking at the perfect time because the weather was like 65 degrees and the trees are all changing colors so the forest was filled with dark brown, forest green, burgundy and yellow leaves.

After the hike, we went back to the house, ate and drove back home.

Just got home not too long ago. Had a fun time chillin and making new friends in poconosI cant find my wallet, i think i left it in Tec's car. Hopefully its there and i didnt drop it while i was getting out of the car.

Sports
Overall a good weekend for sports.
-Yankees had a great comeback on friday, they were losing and i realized i didnt have my lucky yankee cap on. the moment i put it on Arod hit a two run single getting the yankees up to 4 and -Rangers 5. In the end, Rivera closed out and yankees won 6-5. Lucky Hat prevailed.
-SF giants also won against the phillies.
-NY Jets and Giants also won on sunday football.

Forgot the Yankees played yesterday which caused me to forget to wear my lucky cap and they lost by 5 runs. SF Giants also just lost today by 5 runs.

Random song of the day
haha so at walmart, they just released the sing-along Beauty and The Beast and over the weekend, we just chilled on the couch, singing along while we were hungover lol.

Hold You Down

About a week ago, a beat came to my head.

The problem was i didnt know where the beat was from, who produced it or who was featured on it. I knew it wasnt recent but i also knew that it wasnt that old. I narrowed it down to 1999-2005 lol if that helps.

I could hum part of it and somewhat beatbox it. I knew it featured a sample of a short phrase, i knew the sound but forgot what it was actually saying. I tried humming it to a few friends, they had an idea of what i was talking about but didnt know either. I kept getting kanye west as an answer. Or maybe a Dipset song?

It would of been even worse if I forgot the mysterious beat that was stuck in my head so I decided to record my beatboxing on my phone.

I thought maybe its a song on my ipod I havent heard in a while but after hours of listening for a few days, i still havent found it.

Finally, while making my sculpture for art class i randomly decided to look up some tracks by Alchemist. I dont know why but it just came to me. and I FOUND IT!!!!!

im glad i found it and im laughing now but its crazy and frustrating when you think too hard about things, it clutters your mind even more, burying the idea youre trying to get from the archives of your memory even deeper. Then when youre mind is relaxed, it randomly just comes to you. wtf??? lol silly long-term memory.

Anyways the song is hold you down by alchemist from 2004.
here's the instrumental. I like the production more than the actual song. dope beat, lyrics.........ehhhhhhh

Here's the original video
i think this maybe the only time a rap music video was recorded in a Korean BBQ restaurant. hahaha

Madison Square Market

Ive been busy with school, work and etc and still havent got a chance to hit up the Madison Square Market featuring food from.
  • Hill Country
  • Sigmund Pretzelshop
  • Safi Coffee
  • ilili
  • Fatty Crab & ‘Cue
  • Cabrito
  • Wafels & Dinges

  • Bar Suzette

All theses restaurants are featuring a little taste of their menu. Making it convenient for everyone who wants to find a new favorite restaurant, instead of travelling around the city, all these booths are available in one area.

im looking forward to try Roberta's pizza and Pies N Thighs. I been wanting to go to their restaurants but the part of brooklyn they are located in is a little out of the way as i have to take a train to the city and back to brooklyn.

lets go!!!!!!!
only until October 23rd.
Its open 7 days a week from 11 AM to 8 PM.

Song of the day
On the train, on the way home, some guy's headphones were loud enough for me to hear it about 20 feet away. Fortunately it was a Michael Jackson play list. As soon as I stepped into the train, Rock with you was playing and involuntarily got my head bobbing, my foot tapping and me singing aloud.

Winning 10,000 at Atantic City for Columbus day

Last night, while figuring out what to do for Columbus day I randomly came up with the idea of going to Atlantic City to chill and gamble for a day.

Me and Carmen, or to be grammatically correct, Carmen and I took the $13 chinese bus at 9:15 AM to Showboat. After we got off, we recieved at $40 gambling ticket voucher.

Played at the slots and won about $15 at first, cashed out and then went to the Dean Martin machine and put in another $5. I was down to a dollar and then Dean hooked it up with $25. haha. cashed out. went to the blackjack table and won about $100.
So in the end i won about 10,000............................................pennies. haha so thats about $100. not bad.

After buying food and travel ticket im still profiting. Holla!!!!!!!

Song of the day
During the end of the summer vacation, for about a week straight, I kept singing Bowie's Space Oddity. I dont know why. Maybe its because one of my coworkers' name is Tom? lol idn. But while singing it, ling didnt know what i was singing and found it mad weird. Then a few weeks ago Lincoln makes a car commercial with a space oddity cover song.

Lincoln commercial, youve prolly seen it.

Victory for NY Giants/ SF Giants

The NY Giants just beat the Houston Texans 34-10

And the SF Giants beat the Atlanta Braves 3-2. putting them in the lead 2-1 for the national league division series. One victory away to play the Phllies in the NLCS. Phillies just swept the Reds. hahaha.

Today's Giants vs. Braves was a great game. Giants took an early lead with one run(1-0). Then in the 8th inning, Braves has two runs in, putting them in the lead(1-2). In the top of the 9th inning, Giants tie the game to 2-2 and then score another run due to a embarrasing error in a home game by Brooks Conrad. This put Giants in a 3-2 lead closing out the bottom of the 9th with no runs.

ESPN.com stated "Conrad was the first player in franchise history to make three errors in a postseason game"

Good job.

also went to alex's house after work to have some dinner with his family for his dad's bday. Had some homemade pupusas and salvadorian hot chocolate. mmmmmm.

twins, easy sweep for the yanks

Yankees just swept the twins 3-0, to advance into the ALCS, probably against the Rangers.

Im hoping for either the Braves or Giants to win the NLCS to play the yankees at the world series because im tired to seeing the Phillies in the world series.

Yankees vs. Giants because the Giants rarely get a chance to play at the world series. Unfortunately the only times the Giants actually won a World Series was when they were a New York team in the 50's. haha.
and the 1989 "battle at the bay" world series against neighboring oakland athletics, the giants got swept.

Yankees Vs Braves will bring back nostalgic memories of the late 90's world series that I used to watch in Rainbow Lanes with the family while bowling dollar games. I also used to spend all my quarters there to play marvel vs. capcom.

Yankees vs. Cincinatti Reds......no. I never really cared for the Reds. Ive grown to dislike them even more over the past 3 years as everyone gets a Cincinatti Reds black and red fitted to match their black and red Jordans. classy.............

Goodbye/ Goodbuy aqua 8's

I sold my lightly worn Aqua 8's yesterday for $140 to Rafy's friend. So i had no loss or no profit off the shoes. I had the for 3 years and wore them like 5-10 times. Its kinda like i bought them, wore them a few times and then returned them and got my money back. hahaha, I liked them but i just didnt like how they looked on me. I feel awkward in purple, especially if its on my feet. 8's in general, i feel weird in, with the execption of playoff 8's as beaters in the summer or to just chill with in sweatpants.

On a side note, i also spent $90 on my philosophy books on tuesday. so it balances out and i have a little extra to spare.

Selling the aquas also gave me money to buy the rerelease of the laser blue 90's. After about 6 years of patiently waiting and holding back from getting the euro release from a few years ago for about $200, theyre finally coming back out about next week for about $90.

After the lasers, all i need is the Spruce/Hot lime air max 90's to complete my retro air max 90 collection of original vibrant colorways.

Spontaneous unintentional matchmaking at Di Fara's

So on the way home today, i woke up a few stops from Avenue J and decided to randomly get some Di Fara's on my own.

Anyways I need to treat myself. Due to the abundance of the millions of fast food monopolies and their deals, food trucks and processed food, I always found it difficult to eat healthy on a budget and at the same time taste good. Lately I been buying a bag of baby carrots ($1.25) two banana's ($0.25) each and diced pineapple, cantaloupe watermelon and honey dew in a bowl ($2.00) All that for $3.75, a lot cheaper than a $5.00 gyro from the greek truck and also a lot healthier and just as filling.

back to the di fara's story
So i get there at 5:45, first one on line, as usual, for the 6:00 reopening for dinner service. Today i decided to just go solo and get a pepperoni square slice. $6.00 may seem a lot for a pepperoni slice but if you never had di fara's then you just dont understand.

while online, im always meeting people from all over the world, regulars and newcomers, sharing stories to kill time while we wait for pizza.

I called ling and he happend to be on the way home and i told him to get off Avenue J to share a pie with me so I didnt have to wait for a slice which usually takes longer. (they usually sell pies first to serve more customers then just one slice serving one customer)

Later on i met this girl standing on line behind me and she talked about how it was her second time and the first time was amazing. She told me she only wanted two slices and told her to collaborate with me for a portion of the pie. Then i started talking about how i usually gather a few of the "slice buyers" and we all just chip in to get a pie to save time and also save money.

Pepperoni Square slice = $6.00
Square Pepperoni pie (8 slices)= $33.00 about $4.00 a slice.

After talked about collaborating, some random guy, also going solo decided to ask if he can join. This made things better cuz now 4 people can split a 8 slice pie evenly.

While waiting for the pizza, the guy and girl that joined us on the pie started talking and getting to know each other. I looked at ling, optimistically thinking that I unintentionally created a couple. They were both white, from out of town and moved to NYC a few months ago, in their mid 20's. They started talking about cheesy things like favorite movie and etc.

After 15 minutes, we get our pie and sit down. The girl said shes just gonna eat it at home and grabs a pizza box, gets her share, says goodbye and was out. Dayumn, they didnt work out.

In my mind i was thinking of how great it would of been if they exchanged numbers, dated and eventually getting married all because of me and Di Fara's pizza. That would of been one great "how we met" story, all thanks to J.P.

Video of the day
I been slackin of my video and song of the day segments, as if it matters but yeah. Here's todays. I found this a couple months ago and its one of the only di fara's youtube video i like.

The mechanical bull

rode a mechanical bull for the first time today at the annual Hunter college club fair.

There was no line so I decided to ride it about 5 more times.
I still dont understand how to stay on.

I tired holding on with both hands. didnt work. i tired the one hand grip, being limber and just flow with the bull. didnt work either. the longest i lastest was about 10 seconds max.

then again, i would like to blame the bootleg mechanical bull we had. i couldnt have an underarm grip and the whole thing was made up of a slippery and hard plastic. (pause)

fun.

Whut da Blood clot!!!!!!!!!!

so this weekend, the Q train line is under construction so i have to take a the Q shuttle bus to get to the city. pain in the ass. i was 40 minutes late to work. it usually takes about 50 mins to get to work but today it took an hour and 45 minutes. smh.

On the way home, i decided to take the express shuttle bus that skips a few stops. We past church ave and some Jamaican lady yells at the bus driver with the deepest carribean accent.

Yelling about she was never told that it was express and now she doesnt know how to get home. so frustrated just yells "whut da blood clot!" then she passed the white line demanding to get off. the bus driver refuses to move the bus and the bus was held up for about 10 minutes.

I tried to help her, telling her she can get off the next stop and take the bus back uptown to home but she ignored me. then some black guy, prolly with no accent, put on a jamaican accent and she listened and chilled out.

if i only knew, i would busted out my jamaican accent as well.

later on chinese people started yelling because they thought they missed their stop.
then a russian/ eastern european lady stole my seat.

fun times on the biodiverse shuttle bus.

Free Apple Cider

Usually when i walk by the farmers market at union, my fat ass cant prevent myself from getting a cup of cold cider. I usually pay a dollar for a cup but since they were closing, he decided to hook it up. Good lookin out to that asian worker.

Also at union, I tasted some natural honeycomb. I was curious on how it taste the vendor gave me a sample. The comb is where bees store honey. after chewing it, it became like a gum and i realized that beeswax come from the comb. I asked the guy if im suppose to eat it, and the vendor replied "it is edible but some like to spit and others swallow" Whoooaaaa buddy!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ling's 400 page paper

on the phone with ling, he said he hadda go cuz he has a 400 page paper due in the morning. 400 pages???? I cant even press the keyboard fast enough to fill up 400 pages in a few hours. Even J.K. Rowling needed a few years to make a new harry potter book. I knew this retard was being retarded.

Then he said, well i gotta 17 page screenplay to do and i have to make like 20 copies, so thats like 400 page paper.

not really

black white photography

So I was able to get permission to take intro to black and white photography without having to take drawing,

As Ralph stated, im like an art major this semster.
im taking Art Intro where on tuesdays its 3 hours of painting and drawing and on fridays its 3 hours of sculpture.
Tuesday nights after Art Intro, i have my photography class til 9:15 at night.

other than that im taking
Philippine American lit, a writing intensive, where i already have a 4 page paper due i the first week of class.
Intro to Ethics as stated yesterday.
and Speech Communications at John Jay College.

this semester should be interesting, fun and stressful. also expensive, aside from the normal books i have to buy, i also have to pay a $75 lab fee for the dark room for photography and spend like another $150 on film, paper and other equipment. At least i have the camera already. Sucks for students that have to buy all the supplies like $250 and then a camera on top of that. dayumnn.

philosophy trade off

So I just switched my Tuesday/Friday 8:10 - 9:25 AM intro to ethics class for a Monday/Wednesday/Thursday 12:10 - 1:00 PM class.

Tuesday/Friday option
-Quiz/Participation = 10%
-800 word paper #1 = 20%
-800 word paper #2 = 20%
-Two essay Midterm =20%
-Two essay Final =20%

Monday/Wednesday/Thursday option
-5-7 page paper =30%
-MC /short answer Midterm =25%
-MC /short answer final =45%

The benifits of the ethics class that meets 3 times a week is that
-There is less work
-He said he "practically gives the questions and answers and we just have to understand them before the exam"
-Not so early in the morning, so i can swipe my mom in for work everyday.
I am able to nap if needed.
-Chill professor.

The downfall is that since im only being graded on 3 things, one fuck up can make a huge difference. I also gave up my thursday day off for this class. I have to go all the way to hunter for 1 class. Travel time 2 hours, school time 50 minutes. hahaha

Hopefully i made the right choice.

smh at the police

11 year old Brianna Ojeda suffered from an asthma attack in park slope. Soon after the mom rushed to the hospital to rescue her daughter. To avoid traffic, she went against a one way street to get to the hospital sooner.

She gets blocked off by an on coming car. The mom gets out, screaming for help and spots a cop. The retarded cop decided to get angry at the mom for going the wrong way. The cop refused to help and stated that he doesnt know how to perform CPR.

When they get to the hospital, Brianna is pronoucned dead and the cop becomes slightly sympathetic and rips up the traffic violation ticket he was going to give to the family.

SMH.
NYPD "New York's Finest"....... NO!!!!!

Slighly off topic but relevant
I was talking to a tourist from amsterdam, trying to understand how polce react to pedestrians smoking weed. He said cops are mainly cool about everything, their main objective is to prevent violence, protect people and create peace. The tourist said "in amsterdam, the police is our friend."

Found this video on youtube earlier today. I decided to post up now before I forget and never get to it like the dozens of blog entries I intended on writing.

The person that uploaded this on youtube said.....
My friend worked at Wendy's when he was 16. Before he quit he stole this
training tape. He gave it to me and I put the songs on YouTube. I am very

Update on Wafels and Dinges review

I decided to update my opinion on Wafels and Dinges.

http://imjaypee.blogspot.com/2010/05/wafels-and-dinges.html

It was good but I either............
  • got sick of it
  • it isnt as good as it originally was
  • I was in the mood for it, so it tasted better than it really does.

I am willing to try it again and will update on my new opinion.

Connecticut Food Journey part 2

back in august 2009 before the beginning for the fall semster, me, franklin, ray, jerome and special guest denise went to new haven to check out the pizza scene.

While we were there we hit up the two famous pizza spots on Wooster st, New Haven.
->Frank Pepe's Pizzeria
->Sally's Apizza

These two pizzerias are down the street from each other and have been fighting for the best pizza title for decades.

we stopped by sally's first but they open at 5 PM so by default we had to go to frank's.

summary and conclusion
We got a bad first impression of Frank's. im sure its better than what we had, or at least i hope so. we got a half pepperoni, half regular pie and the famous clam pie. both pies were alright but the crust was over done. i like crispy but i couldnt even fold it in half. i was knocking the pizza on the table making thumping sounds.

At sally's we got the potato pizza, a garden salad-ish pizza (forgot the name) and i think pepperoni pizza. all of the pizza was great. i enjoyed it a lot and i think this is what motivated us to do a part 2.
we also went to Libby's Italian Pastry Shop next do to frank's maybe like 3 times that day. they ices were really good and the lobster tail looking pastry.

we also hit up the malls, outlets and random parts of CT to take a break from constant eating.

Part 2
So tomorrow were going back for a part 2.
were definitely gonna go back to sally's and give franks a second chance. of course libby's for dessert.
we also added some new spots.
-> Colony Grill's pizza for the hot oil pizza i been hearing about that supposedly is amazing.
http://slice.seriouseats.com/archives/2010/03/stamford-ct-colony-grill-awesome-tavern-bar-style-pizza.html
-> Louis Lunch the first burger in america, serving burgurs for over a century. we were suppose to go during part 1 but they were closed the whole month of august.
-> Ted's Steamed Burgers.

Louis Lunch and Ted's Steamed Burger youtube clips.

im still missing a lot of entries but ill back track and fill it in when i have time. just been busy chillin, history 152 summer class readings, work and etc.

update with the part 2 result asap.

Wafels and Dinges

after class today, i hung out with carmen and we were trying to decide on a place to eat or just grab a snack. I wanted to try something different so i looked through my phone for spots i been wanting to try.

Il Laboratorio del Gelato
There was this gelato spot in LES i found out about a while back and been wanting to try called il laboratorio del gelato. I was hype cuz i finally had a chance to go and the weather was nice. I get there like 5:50 and the metal store gate was down and they were closed. carmen checked the store hours on her phone and it said they were suppose to close at 7:00. wtf?

This disappointment made me fiend for ice cream. I heard that Jacques Torres started serving ice cream so that was my next alternative.

Jacques Torres
I head over across town to Jacques Torres shop in west village on Hudson. Carmen jokingly said while walking there "imagine they're closed" we get there at 7:02 to find out it closed at 7. bleh.
To make thing even worse, the window featured high-def pics of their ice cream saying how i should try it. low blow.
then i read that the ice cream was only served at the brooklyn location so that made it less disappointing.

failing twice, i unwillingly resorted to walking back to greenwich village to this place formerly known as Yogurtland, Phileo Yogurt. I still call it Yogurtland cuz "Phileo" just sounds awkward and perverted.

On the way to Yogurtland, a block away, i see this yellow waffle truck. I'ved walked by this place so many times but never got anything. I saw that they had ice cream as a topping on the waffles on the menu so i was down.

Wafels and Dinges
Wafels is the Belgian way of spelling waffles.
Dinges (ding-gus) means things, a term used for the toppings on the waffles.

I decided to order the crispy waffle, aka the Brussels waffle topped with slices of strawberry, banana, two scoops of vanilla ice cream, whip, a little powdered sugar and topped with melted Nutella.

I'm not really a dessert person but this was one of the best things i ever ate in my life. This is up there with DiFara's. Everything was just perfect. The waffle was hot, crunchy, light and soft in the middle and a little sweet was perfect the cold ice cream with the fresh tart of the strawberries and sweet soft bananas and the chocolate hazel nut nutella. Amazing!!! though it was $8.00, it was well worth it.

Conclusion
this may seem kinda corny, like "things happen for a reason" bullshit, but im glad that i missed out on Laboritorio del gelato and jacques torres ice cream or i prolly would of have never discovered my new obsession.

try it out, theyre located at different locations everyday. check out the site to see where theyre at for the week.

--------------UPDATE ON WAFELS AND DINGES---------------

the second visit, Ive ordered the pulled pork and cole slaw on the brussels waffle. It was so good. The warm crispy waffle was perfect balance with the warm and spicy pulled pork with the sweet and cold cole slaw.

after the first two visits, i started to lose interest.
I decided re-order the ice cream combo pictured above a couple weeks later and it wasnt as good. I ordered the pulled pork again and it also wasnt as great as I originally tasted.

In the course of 3 weeks, ive tried pretty much everything on the menu.
-de verdekke (waffle ice cream sandwich)
-de throwdown (liege waffle with speculoos and whipped cream)
-bacon and syrup waffle

Maybe i got tired of it quickly, or maybe the first time i wanted ice cream so much that, at the moment, it became the most amazing thing ive ever ate.
Just like yogurtland, after i found out about it, i ate it so much til i got sick of it. maybe this is what happened with wafels and dinges.
Maybe my mind just hyped it up and it wasnt as good as it really is.
i think it might be one of those foods that you really have be in the mood for in order to enjoy it.

In Memory Of Guru

Rest In Peace to Keith Elam aka Guru, One half of Gang Starr.

Found out today, around noon-ish from a text message I got from Enrique. The moment I read it, my goosebumps jumped up. I found out about his heart attack a few months ago and heard that he was going to recover from it so hearing that he passed away today was a complete surprise.

Can't hustle the hustler

Jay-Z walking around greenwich village, outside bar pitti, not buying candy boy's hustle. Jay is just starring him down, right hand in a clinch, ready to knock him out and take all his M&M's

(his $37,000 Audemars Piguet watch is BALLIN!!!!! smh though at his ugly Prps jeans.)

Jay-Z already told us...........
" sell ice in the winter, I sell fire in hell.
I am a hustler baby, I'll sell water to a well."
Knowing that, candy boy should have figured that you cant hustle the hustler.

cmon kid, you should of just shook the mans hand and maybe get an autograph, other than that I would be more than satisfied to have a candid photo of me talking to jay-z.

p.s. stop getting high of your own supply and eating you own M&M's.

philosophy test # 2

just had my second exam today and i think i did alright. a few questions were tricky but didnt really have to guess that much.

got tested mainly on artificail intellegence, mind vs. brain, fatalism, determinism and fuctionalism and the works of Fodor, Lycan, Searle and Dreyfus.

For my essay part, i wrote about Lycan's article on "the civil rights of robots"
i think it was the easiest one to right about and was also the easiest to identify. Found out Freddy and Eimeeh also chose the same essay and most likely so did the rest of the class.

after the test, i went with vargas, hazel maria and rochelle to dollar dumplings, quickly's and pork bun place. I had to buy 11 orders of dollar dumplings to take back to hunter after.

when i got to hunter to drop of the dumpings, it was time for me to go to sociology. i was just so tired and mentally drained that i left and just went home an napped from 4-10 ish. There was no point for me to go to class if i was just going to fall asleep and not focus.

Now time to stress on microbiology test #2 on monday. yay.

accidental multicultural sandwich

didnt know what to eat for dinner so i decided to just make a torta sandwich.

torta is pretty much a filipino omelette made up of mainly ground meat, seasonings and raisins.
for most of my life, i would pick out the raisins but recently i learned to just ignore it and be accepting of it.

the recipe........
I ran outta mayo and didnt want to have a dry sandwich so I spreaded some hummus on my toasted baguette
then added the torta
added some salsa verde and chunky salsa i got from burrito box yesterday
more torta
finished it off with top part of the baguette also lined with hummus.

half way into the sandwich i realized, i had an international sandwich. kinda like the united nations of all sandwiches.
Baguette - france
Hummus- middle eastern
Torta- Filipino
Salsa verde/ chunky salsa- mexico/ central american

it was a really good sandwich but i think it gave me a stomach ache. what made is worse is after the sandwich i decided to wash it down with cold lemonade.

try it yourself.

song of the day
dope smiths song i always hear at work.

close call

after the microbiology lecture today, i met up with carmen to grab lunch and try out burrito box at 57th and 9th.

my steak burrito and carmen's grilled chicken quesadilla was mad good. she didnt rele like the char/ smoke taste but i think its what made the chicken better. a plus was the unlimited free chips and salsa. holla!!!!

while we were eating, some black guy with a "hi hater" shirt came in holding an empty bottle of cheap deli wine. then he ordered his food and while waiting he went outside to gut out his blunt while he talked to his female friend.

he came back into the place to get his food and sat down behind me to roll a blunt. a couple minutes later, a cop walks in and my lunch experience just got even more interesting. the cop was like 2 feet away from mr. concentrated blunt roller but mr. police officer didnt notice cuz his fat ass was to busy focusing on the menu. then blunt boy's homegirl outside yells "rob!!"

Rob looks up at his homegirl and notices the cop and suspiciously covers his open blunt with his bag of food and runs off as he drops little pieces of weed. The cop looked up and found it weird and ignored it and went on with his day.

in the end, everyone was happy.............
Cop got his burrito.
Blunt boy got drunk off of deli wine, got away from cops. got high and ate mexican food.
Me and carmen got full and had a good laugh.
